Sal Wiltshire
Sal is an artist working primarily with oils on wood surface. Her subject areas focus on landscapes and interior scenes. Sal’s work is collected in both Canada and the United States. She lives on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish people, splitting her time between what is commonly known as Hornby Island and Salt Spring Island.
Sal has been an artist since the beginning. Observing the world around her and creating artwork as a process of reflection is something that has always felt natural. After achieving a Masters in History and a degree in Education, she as reconnected with her love of painting.
Painting has revealed a sense of meaning-making for Sal. Her work is a reflection of both visual and emotional observations of the world around us, with special attention to the natural world and unpeopled spaces. There is a strong sense of both place and movement in Sal’s paintings. Colour and mood are key aspects of her work, combining to draw the viewer into the intimate moment between person and place reflected in each painting.
It is the quiet fleeting moments that pass between us and the spaces we find ourselves in are what Sal loves to paint. She is proud to have her work in the Tofino Gallery of Contemporary Art in Tofino, BC an Gallery8 on Salt Spring Island, BC.
